Description

 

As a not-for-profit Whitelion relies heavily on its volunteer base and interns to assist with ongoing projects and everyday operations. With the running of multiple annual events as well as fundraising appeals, we have many positions on offer to assist us in helping young people in need.

 

We currently gain help from corporate partners, individual volunteers and graduates, however we have joined with U.HQ to broaden our collaboration by reaching out to current students looking for real industry experience.

 

About you and the role

 

This position is for a marketing/communications/public relations student who will assist our communications and partnerships team with the up-coming fundraising appeal, annual report, donor collateral and the creation of a communications plan.

 

We are looking for someone who is particularly interested in gaining experience and insight into the not-for-profit sector, with a passion for social change. They must possess a high level of ability to work collaboratively and autonomously, have sound knowledge of MS Office, excellent verbal and written skills and a willingness to think outside of the box and get things done!
 

The successful applicant will:

 

Produce the 2nd wave letter for Christmas Appeal:

- Study and analyse the target audience (donors) of the appeal

- Writing a draft for the letter to be send to active donors

- Gather required material (ex. Relevant pictures, stories, statistics)

- Working with the supervisor to finalise the letter

 

Generate the 2016-17 FY annual report:

- Gather and analyse information about the main target audience of the annual report

- Review the previously compiled documents and reports

- Review the suggested outline

- Identify potential gaps in the existing data and work with the supervisor to collect the missing information

- Create the initial draft, and a design brief, to be sent to designers

- Review the initial draft sent back from the designers

- With the help of the supervisor, get a team of volunteers to proofread the document

- Send the final feedback to the designer to complete the annual report for print

 

Updating general communication collaterals for donors:

- Create a new thank you / receipt to be used for communicating with donors

- Create an appeal template and checklist to be used for major appeals

- Create letter templates for communication with major donors

Time required

 

Commitment to 3 days a week at 5-6 hours per day for 1 to 2 months  - flexible

 

Training

 

Orientation and induction, WHS and Keeping Children Safe training.

 

Monitoring and supervision

 

Face to face supervision. Daily briefing of tasks at the start of the day, and reflection at the end. On-going face to face assistance when required.

- Identify and learn about the day-to-day challenges involved in communication with specific target audiences, and apply academic theory to explore possible solutions for overcoming those challenges.
