Data Analyst
Description

The purpose of this role is to apply a range of skills and experience to analyse and interpret data to share insights with stakeholders in a compelling way. Data will be made available from a variety of sources, many of which are not directly linked but all relate to volunteer involvement in the Salvos services and functions. This role is critical to provide necessary information to shape and inform several projects including a national online volunteer management system.

We are looking for people who are ready to roll-up their sleeves and join a tightly-knit team that are tackling very interesting and challenging opportunities as the organisation moves to merge 2 territories and become a single national entity.
This role requires the following competencies:

Comfortable with basic tools such as Excel, a statistical programming language, like R or Python, and a database querying language like SQL.

Be familiar with statistical tests, distributions, maximum likelihood estimators, etc. to support decisions and design / evaluate experiments.

Be familiar with Machine Learning methods such as k-nearest neighbours, random forests, ensemble methods and really understand when it is appropriate to use different techniques.

Analyse messy and difficult datasets to work with. Know how to deal with imperfections in data such as missing values, inconsistent string formatting and date formatting, etc.

Be able to visualise and communicate data to support data-driven decisions. Describe findings or the way techniques work to audiences, both technical and non-technical.

Have a data-driven problem solver mindset with focus on about what things are important, and what things aren’t.
