Creative Intern Communications
Description
The Creative Intern (Communications) works in consultation with the Senior Coordinator, Creative in developing on-line and social media content which promotes RMIT Creative program activities as part of RMIT’s Student Life program .
The role is suitable for students interested in marketing and communications within the creative industries. Throughout the year there will be opportunities to learn and develop skills in a particular area of interest and to work on specific projects, such as electronic and social media and event planning.
This is dependent on the intern demonstrating a sufficient level of commitment to the role and interest in and mastery of the general tasks.
Both a willingness to learn and a cheerful nature to work well with a team are essential. The Intern will also receive specialised in-house training in marketing, promotions and communications. The successful applicant should be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about art, design and culture at RMIT and more broadly across Melbourne and Australia. They should have an interest in learning and developing skills in communications within an arts and cultural environment.
Key Accountabilities
Support the RMIT Creative program:

Distribute RMIT Creative promotional material across the city campus

Collate and edit material for Creative Magnet e-newsletter.

Develop content for RMIT Creative social media channels, including photography

Writing occasional news stories and web content
Support the RMIT Creative program officers with promotions, events and other special duties:

Represent RMIT Creative externally and internally

RMIT Welcome Events
-
Attendance at special events
-
Bar or box office work at such events
-
Assist with catering at functions and events
-
Other duties as required
Selection Criteria

A student enrolled at RMIT throughout 2018.

An understanding of RMIT Student Life programs and in particular, RMIT Creative programs, with a strong interest in working within the creative sectors in a communications capacity.

Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite and proficient in design programs such as Photoshop or Illustrator.

Strong written, oral and photographic communication skills and demonstrated experience working with students. Social media skills are an advantage.

Demonstrated experience working within a busy team environment with the ability to take direction and also work independently with minimal supervision.

Can reliably commit to working two days a week, with flexibility to work some evenings and weekends throughout the year during major events as required.
